About this video
Prof Graves explains the types and sources of genetic differences between women and men and how these differences evolved over time to impact on women’s lives. Evolutionary forces have contributed to the development of genetic differences between women and men which translate into their different sizes, shapes, behaviour, disease susceptibility. Complex traits are determined by multiple genes and environment/culture. Sex specific traits evolved by selection for sex-specific roles. Women and men can transcend their evolutionary past and their genetic presences by changing those cultures that impose inequalities on women, and in this way achieve change towards equity and equal opportunity.
