About this video
Prof Yi explains that good data is essential to effective action. However, in relation to SDGs, collecting good data on gender equality has not been sufficiently prioritised by countries. Women’s organisations and advocates of gender equality can demonstrate effective use of gender data. Governments must collect gender statistics for the identified core gender issues and include these efforts in the national plans for SDGs. A strong global political commitment and will are needed to make real progress on gender equality in SDGs, with strong collaboration between national statistical offices and non-governmental organisations involved in SDGs implementation. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic shows how many gender gaps there are in the available data concerning gender differences.
