What is plagiarism and how to avoid it

Plagiarism not only negatively impacts your career, it is also easy to detect. So, it’s important that early career researchers understand where the boundaries lie. Of the ethics cases that Elsevier deals with each year, nearly 50% are related to plagiarism and the perception of editors, publishers, and the media is that rates are rising. 

In this module, we put plagiarism under the microscope. We look at some definitions and offer practical advice on how you can steer clear of this unethical behavior. You’ll come away with a clear understanding of what constitutes plagiarism and the forms of original work it applies to. You’ll learn the principles and importance of correct citation and what to do if someone breaks the rules.
